Abstract

The paper reported the preparation and characterization of hydrophilic poly(ether sulfone) membrane via dry phase inversion method. The aim of this study was to produce a high permeability of poly (ether sulfone) membrane with improved hydrophilicity property. The effect of the addition of surfactant Tetronic 1307 as a pore forming agent and a surface forming agent on the membrane performances was investigated. The morphology of fabricated membranes was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, and the structure changes of membrane with various concentration of Tetronic 1307 were discussed in detail. Single sheet module ultrafiltrations with dead-end flow were performed to discuss the water permeability and solute rejection of resulted membrane. Water contact angle measurement was conducted to observe the surface hydrophilicity of the membrane. In general, hydrophilic PES porous membrane was successfully produced by blending surfactant Tetronic 1307 in dope solution. © Research India Publications.
