Abstract

This paper concerns on propagation of a wave group with three frequencies in hydrodynamic laboratory. It is motivated by the needs of hydrodynamic laboratory to generate extreme waves deterministically in a wave tank. Such waves will be used to test a floating body object before operated. To support this activity, a mathematical model is described that can be used to predict accurately and very efficiently the nonlinear evolution of wave which is generated by the wave maker motion. Using this model and a quantity called maximal temporal amplitude (MTA), in this paper we investigate the deformation, as well as nonlinear evolution, of wave which is initially in Benjamin-Feir signal form. This signal defines as a monochromatic signal is modulated by a long wave. MTA measures at each position downstream from the wave generator the maximum of the wave amplitude over time and how large of the wave at the position. © 2015 Pushpa Publishing House, Allahabad, India.
