Citronella is one of the leading commodities developed by farmers in Gayo Lues District in particular and Gayo Highlands (GH) in general. Farmers began to develop citronella farming with little consideration of the lands that are suitable for agricultural activities. The analysis of land characteristics for citronella was conducted on smallholder citronella farms included in the SPL that had been established. The assessment was based on observations of the morphological characteristics of the land in the field and the results of soil physics and soil chemistry analysis in the laboratory. This analysis aims to increase citronella production through specific input information needed to increase citronella production. This analysis also allows to assess the possibility of developing citronella planting areas. The actual land suitability class for citronella development in the Gayo Highlands is dominated by the suitability class (S1) which indicates that the land is highly suitable. Land characteristics such as rainfall, elevation, soil chemical content in the Gayo Highlands are highly suitable for citronella. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.
