Utilization of fatty alcohol compounds i.e. stearyl alcohol and lauryl alcohol as rubber additives in silica reinforcement on natural rubber (NR) has been carried out. It was found that both additives have acted as curative additives and plasticizers for the silica-reinforced NR compound/vulcanizate. Both additives have improved processing properties. The stearyl alcohol or lauryl alcohol has improved the cure degree and state by increasing the cure rate of the silica-reinforced NR compound. Regarding the torsion properties; they also have a successful role as plasticizers which have the capabilities to reduce the viscousness and to improve the dispersion of reinforcing silica in the compound of NR with silica. The morphological (scanning electron microscopy) study has confirmed that the compound of NR-silica with stearyl alcohol or lauryl alcohol has morphological images with better silica dispersion. © 2024 Author(s).
