Abstract

Sustainable water resource management is crucial for development, particularly in developing countries where efficient monitoring tools remain rare. This study presents a unique IoT-enabled water meter monitoring system that integrates mobile and web applications for real-time monitoring of water consumption. To address limitations in current static metering, the product is built on a scalable architecture using Flutter, React, Node.js, and cloud services (Firebase and AWS) to facilitate complete data manipulation. It aims to overcome crucial water resources by monitoring through a user-friendly application, which has multiple language options and sophisticated data visualization tools. The proposed mobile app system introduces novelty through a dual role mechanism: the homeowners and the water company officer role. The app enables the user to have a detailed water usage analysis throughout a period of time with an interactive chart representation. Users may view the data with daily, weekly, monthly, and a customized date range. Some notable features implemented in this app are: Google authentication, IoT real-time integration, and to scale data visualization. The architecture of the app allows for granular water usage tracking, providing hourly and weekly breakdown charts. The finding shows that this research indicates high potential for enhancing water resources management and conservation awareness in contexts with limited resources. Quantitative performance evidence from usability testing with 10 end users confirmed high satisfaction, with a System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 74.5, which is categorized as “good.” ©2025 IEEE.
