Abstract

Plastic waste is a problem that is difficult to solve due to the lack of involvement of all stakeholders involved in the plastic waste cycle. Plastic waste that is not managed properly can become a serious problem for human health and the environment. The current management of plastic packaging waste has not been carried out comprehensively and integrated from upstream to downstream. The lack of participation of producers in managing packaging waste is one of the factors in the increase in plastic waste generation nationally. The government through various programs and regulations is trying to increase the responsibility of producers in managing their product packaging waste by increasing the application of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme, the application of EPR is expected to maximize the responsibility of producers in managing product packaging waste and generate economic circularity from the entire life cycle and extend the use of materials as long as possible. PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda is a fertilizer producer that distributes products using product packaging in the form of plastic fertilizer sacks, the application of EPR in managing fertilizer sack waste at PT PIM is still not optimal. So, a study is needed that aims to analyze the waste generation of fertilizer sacks and the potential reduction, utilization and recycling that can be done and managed from the entire life cycle of fertilizer sacks. The research stages consisted of: (1) primary and secondary data collection for quantitative & qualitative methods, (2) analyzing life cycle, waste generation, & management potential with descriptive analysis methods. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
