Abstract

Banda Aceh’s history of recurrent disasters highlights the urgency of prevention, mitigation, and strategic relocation planning. This study identifies potential relocation sites for communities affected by disasters based on sustainable site selection criteria. A GIS-based Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) is employed, incorporating seven criteria: safe zones from disasters, land use. sufficient area, land slope, soil type, and accessibility to various service facilities and infrastructure. The analysis focuses on peri-urban areas of Banda Aceh within Aceh Besar Regency. The GIS-based MCDA categorizes relocation sites into five suitability levels: very high suitability, high suitability, moderate, low suitability, and very low suitability. The findings suggest that highly suitable relocation sites cover a total area of 256,37 hectares, including eight villages in Danil Kamal and Darul Imarah districts. This study contributes to disaster mitigation literature by offering a scientifically grounded and socially inclusive framework for residential relocation plaiming in Banda Aceh. © (2025), (Malaysian Institute Of Planners).
