Augmented reality (AR) is determined as emerging technology deployed in many fields including robotics, medical, architecture, engineering, and education. In this work, we developed an AR application compatible with Android devices. The app was designed to guide students in performing virtual practicum of the corrosion process of iron in five different environments. Twenty-two respondents were involved in the need analysis, system usability scale assessment, and response to the app. Need analysis revealed that the AR app is highly demanded by students in comprehending chemistry concepts, corrosion was chosen by majority of respondents as the topic of development, and Android is preferred over other platforms. The app was valid in terms of content, language, display, graphical quality, and AR features. Overall, the app was easy to use with usability mean score of 87.2%. Furthermore, based on the student response questionnaire, most respondents agree that the app was fun and interesting to use, properly developed according to the desired concept, and applicable to help students in the learning process. In short, A reliable and easy to use Android app of AR-based virtual laboratory for practical work of corrosion has been successfully developed and tested, and the app was determined as feasible based on the feasibility score of 92.83% and therefore is very suitable to be used as an instructional media. © 2024 AIP Publishing LLC.
