This study focused on the performance analysis of public transportation in Banda Aceh and the supporting relevant policies. Trans Koetaradja, as the only Bus Rapid Transit-Lite provided by the Aceh Department of Transportation, has been serving the city for about six years. However, it is still not able to reach the intended load factor to be able to continue to its planned next phase. On the other hand, more private motorized vehicles keep occupying the roads. Both are examples of how the implemented actions and policies are still less optimal in supporting a sustainable mobility system. The qualitative method was used in this study. An expert interview with the head of the Trans Koetaradja department was conducted. Additionally, relevant data such as reports, articles, and policies were collected and dissected as supporting evidence. The results of this study were policy recommendations for the government as an instrument to shift the transportation system in Banda Aceh to be more sustainable. It could be achieved by focusing on monitoring and evaluating related policies that benefit private motorized vehicle users. Thus, the number of private motorized vehicles could be suppressed while the number of passengers on public transport could be increased. © 2024 Author(s).
