One of the largest urban slum settlement areas is located in the Krueng Barona Jaya Sub-district in Aceh Besar Regency. All the villages are identified as slum areas hence it is necessary to find a priority scale to handle them by considering several criteria. This research was, therefore, conducted to analyze the dominant criteria to be considered as well as the priority order to handle slum settlement areas. The method used was quantitative through the application of a questionnaire as the research instrument. Moreover, samples were selected using purposive sampling technique on policymakers or stakeholders and this led to the selection of 6 stakeholders including the Subdistrict Head of Krueng Barona Jaya, the Regional Secretariat Assistant, Kotaku Program Coordinator of the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Office, Head of the Environmental Service, Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), and Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Aceh Besar Regency as the respondents. The criteria reviewed in this study include the buildings, environmental roads, drinking water supply, environmental drainage, wastewater management, waste management, and fire protection. Data were analyzed using Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) and the results showed it is necessary to consider handling priorities based on building criteria with Gampong Gla Deyah placed as priority 1, Gampong Gla Meunasah Baro as priority 2, and Gampong Lampermai as priority 3. © 2023 Author(s).
