Abstract

The effect of bentonite to chitosan ratio on green adsorbent chitosan bentonite beads for absorption of anionic dyes (Congo Red) and cationic dyes (Methylene Blue) were investigated in this research. Green adsorbent chitosan-bentonite beads were synthesized with a variation of the bentonite-chitosan ratio 0:100%; 10:90%; 20:80%; 30:70% and 40:60% w/w. The adsorption process was carried out by inserting 0.4 grams of adsorbent into a 25 ml beaker containing dye with a concentration of 25 ppm for 120 minutes with a stirring speed of 120 rpm. The results show that the increase of bentonite concentration make the absorption of cationic dyes increased, while the absorption of anionic dyes decreased. The best absorption of cationic dyes of 76.27% was achieved at a bentonite to chitosan ratio of 40:60, while the best absorption of anionic dyes of 96.17 % was achieved in adsorbents that did not contain bentonite. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
