Rapid growth in private vehicle ownership and usage is one of the key problems in the development of a sustainable transportation system for Banda Aceh City. Private vehicle ownership, especially motorcycles, depends on the land use patterns and socioeconomic characteristics of a city. Socioeconomic factors, including age, gender, income, house type, and family size also affect the choice of transportation mode and destination in the short and long terms. In this study, disaggregate levels individually and household data are used to determine the effects of socioeconomic factors on household decisions to own one, two, and three motorcycles. This research models motorcycle ownership by the estimating multinomial logit model or MNL model using STATA package statistical program. The result suggests that income level, age, and education level influence motorcycle ownership in Banda Aceh City. The number of motorcycle ownership will continue to increase if the number of adolescent growth rates increases. In addition, if the growth in education level is higher, the level of motorcycle ownership will be lower, this is because people are increasingly aware of transportation problems. An increase in low-income and normal-income households will reduce the probability of car ownership in urban areas. © 2023 Author(s).
