Problems that occurred during the service life of a reinforced concrete (RC) structure are shear cracks. As a result, it may reduce the performance and strength of a structure. One way to restore its performance is to use synthetic FRP material as a strengthened method. However, the use of synthetic FRP material may harm the environment. Thus, natural fibers as a natural material of FRP called Natural fiber reinforced polymer (NFRP) are used as other alternatives. The contribution of NFRP on RC beam performance is greatly influenced by the bonding strength between NFRP and concrete. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the bonding behavior of pineapple fiber and silk fiber-based NFRP on strengthened RC beams using direct tensile tests based on the number of fiber layers in NFRP and types of NFRP fibers. Total test specimens are 9 specimens with a cross section of (100 x 100) and 300 mm in length. A single reinforcement with a diameter of D10 mm was used in the middle of the cross-section NFRP was attached on both sides of the beam. The results show that the maximum load of the specimen with pineapple and silk fiber-based NFRP on strengthened RC beam increases by 2.5% and 4.2% compare to the sound beam in the three-layer of fiber, respectively. Bond stress at a maximum load was increased as the number of fiber layers in NFRP increased. The type of fiber as NFRP material influences the performance of strengthened RC beams. © 2023 Author(s).
