The use of bionanocomposite films is increasing in the industry because it is environmentally friendly, but mechanical properties, UV barrier, and antioxidant are still a challenge. This study aims to characterise bionanocomposite films based on chitosan nanoparticles (CH) and palm starch matrix (SPS) with added antioxidant from bay flower (BP) to improve mechanical properties, UV barrier, and antioxidant. Characterisation of structure and composition using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Mechanical tests were conducted with tensile strength and elongation tests, while UV barrier and antioxidant tests were conducted to assess the functional properties of the films. XRD results showed that there was a crystal structure corresponding to chitosan nanoparticles. Functional group analysis results with FTIR indicated good chemical interactions between film components. Tensile strength test results showed an increase in mechanical strength and the film also had better UV barrier ability. Antioxidant activity test results showed the potential of the film in protecting the product from oxidation. In conclusion, the bionanocomposite film with the addition of telang flower extract showed an increase in mechanical properties, good UV barrier, and antioxidant activity. barrier, and high antioxidant activity, thus potentially used as an environmentally friendly packaging material. © 2026 Author(s)
