Generative AI is increasingly being explored as a tool to enhance education and professional development. However, limited research has examined its potential role in supporting pre-service mathematics teachers, particularly in the context of teacher education programs. This study explores the potential of generative AI as a virtual peer mentor in mathematics teacher education, focusing on pre-service mathematics teachers' perspectives at a public university in Indonesia. Utilizing a qualitative design, the research involved interviews with eight participants enrolled in a teaching certificate program. Thematic analysis of the data revealed that pre-service teachers generally hold positive views regarding the use of generative AI as a virtual peer mentor. They highlighted the AI's ability to provide instant feedback, its round-the-clock availability, and its diverse problem-solving strategies. The findings suggest that integrating generative AI in teacher education programs can enhance support and foster a positive learning environment for pre-service teachers. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc..
