Introduction: Code stroke (CS) protocol is applied in acute ischemic stroke management, which include administration of intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (IV rt-PA/alteplase). The use of IV alteplase in acute ischemic stroke is connected with an improved clinical result and recovery of acute ischemic stroke. Time-sensitive medical intervention in acute stroke is pivotal to reduce mortality, morbidity and disability rates. The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of code stroke protocol in the treatment of acute stroke patients at a hospital in Aceh, Indonesia. Patients and methods: We retrospectively included data from patients admitted to Emergency Room in our hospital from January 2019 to May 2020 and were diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke. The clinical information at follow-up was also analyzed. Results: We assessed 12 patients (8 male and 4 female) with CS protocol, average age of 53.6 years, onset of stroke 1.98 hours, door-to-needle time 26.83 minutes, initial National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) 8.91, and NIHSS >24 hours 2.08. Conclusion: CS protocol helps elevate the proportion of patients with acute ischemic stroke to receive stroke thrombolysis (IV alteplase) with door-to-needle time (DNT) under 30 minutes. © 2020, Advanced Scientific Research.
